Pennsylvania School to Fire Blanks During Upcoming Active Shooter Drill

An upcoming active shooter drill at a high school in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania will include blanks being fired so students will be exposed to the sound of gunfire a letter sent to parents said

According to school officials, students will participate in the A.L.I.C.E. Drill conducted by school police and a trained A.L.I.C.E. team, that will include an alleged shooter in the school. During the drill, police will fire blanks down hallways in the school to give students an idea of what gunshots sound like in an urban environment like the school. The blanks will not be fired at anyone, the letter stated.

“The faculty and staff have been apprised of the situation and over the next few days the students will be shown a PowerPoint in homeroom, providing them with the needed information,” the letter to parents said.

A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evade - tactics authorities say people should use when confronted in an active shooter situation.
